Available ONLY On Etsy

I have quite a few prints in my Etsy shop of photos that I have never posted on Flickr, including the following:

A previously unseen photo I took the day I received my copy of In Her Own Image.

Grand Canyon 7.31-8.02, 2009

I realize that I've been neglecting my blog quite a bit. Truthfully, I'm not much good at this whole blogging thing, but I really do try! I want to be a good blogger, but it hasn't really worked out so far. Part of the problem is that I put off blogging until I have such a backlog of stuff that it becomes even more daunting. Tonight I am trying to make a dent in that backlog and play catch up.

Really, it's a problem with my photos in general. I take so many, so often, that it's easy for me to just keep shooting more and more, only editing a few or posting a few along the way.. leaving a bunch of them just sitting in folders waiting for the day that I'll remember they're there and actually put them somewhere. My pictures from our trip to the Grand Canyon are a great example. I think I uploaded 2 to Flickr... but I took hundreds. So, rather than bombarding my Flickr account with all of those (now "old") photos, I'm going to post some of them here.

Now for some of the people. The group that went was myself and Ian, his parents, his sister Elizabeth, cousin Allison, other sister Jessica, Jess's husband Chad, and their baby girl, Anna. It was a good time. :)

Yours truly, in the desert.

Allison, in the desert.

That guy I'm married to. ;)

I am now selling my prints on Etsy! You can find my shop here:

Here is a sample of some of the photos I have available:

Right now I am going to offer a special deal. :) If you purchase an 8x10, I will throw in a FREE 5x7 or 5x5 square print (of your choice) - just mention in your order that you saw my blog, and let me know which free print you would like. I'm going to leave this offer open until July 12th.

Getting started on Etsy is tricky - it's a lot of self-promotion, and at the beginning it is very hard to compete with all the experienced sellers. So, give me a hand. :)

All of my prints are on Kodak Endura paper, archival quality, and will be signed and dated (on the back) by me.

Commentary on Letters + Extras

I know I haven't been good about keeping this updated, but I'm going to try harder. Tonight I'm using this blog for a little commentary on a photo of mine. The photo is this one, titled Letters:

Day 292 - Letters

This is one of my favorite photos that I've taken. One of the things that makes this photo special, is that the pieces of paper in the photo, the "letters" were actually letters. I was really upset (angry/frustrated) with someone, and I took a bunch of blank pages and wrote out all these things on them. Then I crumbled them up, and threw them on my floor. And it made me feel better.

Some previously unseen (and mostly unedited) photos from this day:

05.05.09 Outtakes

It has been a crazy week, and last night decided to shoot some self-portraits to melt away the stress. Really, photography is the best therapy for me. Not that I need therapy... *nervous laughter* ;) I've really taken my very best photos while being stressed, angry, sick, sad, etc. I still have a few more from this shoot that I will post to Flickr, but here are a few that just didn't make the cut.

I really liked the composition of this one, with the empty wall, and the way the colors came out, but I think I look like I'm doing stomach crunches, as opposed to lounging about in a comfortable and cozy manner.

This one I almost really like. I like the positioning of my arm, and the lighting, but don't care for my expression. I look a bit sleepy or "dead" in the eyes. Or like I am about to sneeze. ;)

I have a few others that I'm going back and forth about so they may end up on here at some point. Definitely one or 2 more to come to Flickr though. :) Thanks for looking!!

Asylum Shoot Outtakes

I shot a ton of photos for this shoot, inside my dog's kennel. I edited a lot of them, but have tried to only upload my favorites to Flickr. There are still more that may end up there eventually. I was honestly surprised that this series wasn't more popular, because I love it. I had this idea of shooting in my dog's kennel for a long time now (years). Originally, I had been contemplating the 7 Deadly Sins project and thought this theme might be good for "wrath". I've worked out another theme for the 7 Deadly Sins though, and so this shoot was allowed to stand on it's own.

I shot these 2 images with the intention of cloning them together, but after the fact I didn't think this clone shot had the same impact as many of the single shots. I still like it, but I wish I'd framed it more "straight on". I moved my camera midway during the shoot and these were from the first set up. I think if I'd have shot them from the second set up I'd like the result a little better.

Another one that I wish I'd shot from the second (more straight on) set up. Struggled with this one because the sun was much brighter down by the end where my face was, and couldn't seem to get the color tones to work as I wanted them to, but still like it.

_MG_9134 copy

A close runner up for the shot titled Asylum on my Flickr account... I like the blur of the open mouth, but the rest of my face I don't care for. In Asylum, I like that the blur is less extreme, and my eye contact still manages to come through it.

Lastly, this is a close up shot from the same day. I shot this outside along with Whiteout.

I've decided to start a blog where I can post various photos that will not make it all the way to Flickr. I plan on showing some before/afters and possibly some editing techniques, along with outtakes from shoots, and photos of things/people other than myself. I may also occasionally post a snapshot or 2 of random events in my life, and wouldn't be at all surprised if I ended up ranting or rambling here from time to time.

I expect this to be rather disorganized, because I will probably be posting older photos as well as new ones, and can't guarantee that they will be in any particular order or with any rhyme or reason.

Look here to see what you won't see on Flickr, and to possibly learn a bit more about me when my tendencies to babble on overtake me. (As they are beginning to do now!)
